The next Ballon d’Or winner has reportedly been ‘leaked’
The next Ballon d’Or winner has reportedly been ‘leaked’ and the player in question ‘already knows’ he’s won it.
It is the most prestigious individual award in the sport of football, the Ballon d’Or, awarded to the, supposed, best footballer on planet Earth.
Of course, we all know, despite being voted on by players and journalists, often the award has been a bit of a popularity contest in the past causing plenty of controversy among fans.
These claims that the awards is a little persuaded by certain individuals won’t be tamed by the news that this year’s winner has allegedly already been chosen and informed.
This comes from reports in Spain that say Vinicius Junior is set to win the Ballon d’Or and ‘already knows’ it too. Spanish outlet MARCA reported the news yesterday saying: “All roads lead to Gold for Vini Jr.”
The Brazilian got 24 goals and 11 assists last season in 39 appearances while also scored the goal that sealed Madrid’s 15th Champions League title.
The 24-year-old has had a good start to this season too, scoring three and setting up four in six games.
MARCA have a track record in this domain, having ‘leaked’ the winner of the competition correctly in the last few years.
If Vini does indeed win the award he’ll beat teammates and rivals alike, with Jude Bellingham, Kylian Mbappé, Harry Kane, Granit Xhaka and Erling Haaland all among the other favourites.
With the news being leaked, many fans have been giving their thoughts on social media on the Brazilian potentially winning the Ballon d’Or.
Many people believe Rodri should be in line to win the award after another successful season, winning the Premier League with Man City and the Euros with Spain.
One person said: “Rodri literally went unbeaten for his team. Bellingham contributed more for Madrid but because Vini did 4 dribbles he deserves it? Let’s talk about his Copa America campaign.”
Another commenter put: “Vini is supported by a system meanwhile Rodri is the system That guy only looks like he should get it cause he’s at Madrid.”
Although one person disputed these comments and said: “There’s not a single player better than Vinicius in world football right now.” The official Ballon d’Or ceremony is set for the 28 October.
