7-Year-Old’s McDonald’s Craving Leads to Unauthorized 9-Mile Drive
In a startling incident that has captured national attention, a 7-year-old boy from Clearfield, Utah, took his mother’s car for a nine-mile drive to Ogden, accompanied by his 5-year-old sister, in pursuit of a McDonald’s meal. The event, which occurred on the morning of April 27, 2025, has raised serious concerns about child safety and parental supervision.

The Unfolding of Events
At approximately 8 a.m., the Ogden Police Department received a report of a reckless driver near 21st Street and Wall Avenue. The caller noted that the vehicle was swerving and that the driver appeared to be a child. Upon locating the vehicle, officers attempted a traffic stop; however, the young driver did not yield. Considering the driver’s age and the potential risk to public safety, officers decided against pursuing the vehicle. The car was later found disabled near 40th Street after hitting a parking strip. Both children were unharmed and were evaluated by medical personnel before being reunited with their mother at the police station.

Community Reaction
Residents of South Ogden expressed disbelief upon learning that a child so young had managed to drive through multiple towns. Samantha O’Neal, a local resident, remarked, “I did hear about the little boy … that took off and had the little sister in the car. Scared the dickens out of everybody.” Another resident, Mae Dedloff, commented, “That’s honestly crazy to me. I can’t believe that he had the knowledge to really know how to drive a car and even reach the pedal.”
Parental Perspective
Whitney Bush, the children’s mother, expressed her shock and concern over the incident. She stated, “He’s in a world of trouble, he’s probably grounded for the rest of his life.” Bush mentioned that her son had previously exhibited behavioral issues and had aspirations of becoming a truck driver. She also noted that he had taken money with him for the trip and had ensured his sister was buckled up during the ride.
Legal and Safety Implications
Given the driver’s age, no charges are being pursued, and the identities of the individuals involved have not been released. The incident has sparked discussions about the importance of securing vehicles and ensuring that children do not have access to car keys. Authorities have emphasized the need for parents to be vigilant and to educate their children about the dangers of operating vehicles without proper training and authorization.
Broader Concerns
This event highlights the potential risks associated with children having unsupervised access to vehicles. It underscores the necessity for parents and guardians to implement safety measures, such as keeping car keys out of reach and educating children about the responsibilities and dangers associated with driving. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of community awareness and proactive measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
