Clare GAA Mourns the Loss of Young Football Star Éanna Rouine
The Clare GAA community is reeling from the sudden and tragic passing of Éanna Rouine, a promising young footballer from Lahinch. At just 20 years old, Éanna’s untimely death on May 27, 2025, at St. James’s Hospital in Dublin has left a profound void in the hearts of many.

Éanna was more than just a talented athlete; he was a beloved son, brother, and friend. His vibrant personality, infectious smile, and unwavering dedication to his sport made him a cherished member of the community. As a player, he represented Clare at the Minor level in 2021 and was part of the Under-20 panel from 2022 to 2024. His contributions to Ennistymon GAA and the University of Limerick’s football team were significant, showcasing his exceptional skills and commitment.
Clare GAA Tributes Pour In
In the wake of his passing, tributes have flooded in from all corners of the GAA community. Clare GAA released a heartfelt statement expressing their deep sorrow:
“Éanna was an extremely talented and promising young footballer with both club and county. His loss has left a void that words cannot fill.”
Ennistymon GAA also shared their grief, highlighting Éanna’s multifaceted talents:
“A truly talented and accomplished sportsman but much more than that, he was intelligent, witty, a strong academic performer, a talented musician, … .”
The outpouring of condolences reflects the profound impact Éanna had on those around him. His legacy as a dedicated athlete and compassionate individual will endure in the memories of all who knew him.
Honoring His Memory
To commemorate Éanna’s life, books of condolence have been opened at the West Clare Municipal District Office in Ennistymon and at Áras Contae an Chláir in Ennis. These provide an opportunity for the community to express their sympathies and share memories of a young man who touched so many lives.
Éanna’s funeral arrangements have been announced, with a repose at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Lahinch on Saturday, May 31, from 3-6pm. A requiem mass will follow on Sunday, June 1, at 1pm, after which he will be laid to rest in Kilmacreehy Cemetery.
