A major transport overhaul is on the horizon for Cork as the National Transport Authority (NTA) and Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) unveil plans for the city’s first light rail system – informally dubbed the Cork Luas.

The newly proposed route would stretch across 18 kilometres, linking Ballincollig in the west to Mahon Point in the east, with an estimated 25 stops along the way. The project is being hailed as a cornerstone of sustainable transport development in Ireland’s second city.

Where Will the Cork Luas Go?

The proposed light rail will connect key residential, educational, medical, and commercial zones, including:
