Cork Man Accused of Threatening Students During Armed Burglary
A 22-year-old man from Glanmire, County Cork, has been charged in connection with an alleged armed burglary that took place in July 2023. The incident involved two students who were reportedly threatened and assaulted in their home.

Details of the Incident
According to court proceedings, on the evening of July 2, 2023, two men forcibly entered a residence on Highfield Avenue, College Road, Cork. One of the intruders was described as wearing an all-black tracksuit, black ski-mask, blue latex gloves, and wielding a large chef’s knife. The second man was also dressed in black and armed with a flathead screwdriver.
The intruders demanded money and drugs, specifically cocaine, from the occupants. During the ordeal, the students were allegedly punched multiple times in the head and threatened with having their fingers cut off. The assailants reportedly stole €30 in cash and the students’ mobile phones before fleeing the scene.
Investigation and Arrest
A glove left at the scene was forensically examined, revealing a fingerprint match to Martin Ekhosuehi of Willow Gardens, Brooklodge, Glanmire. Additionally, two Gardaí identified him as a suspect after reviewing CCTV footage.
Court Proceedings
Detective Garda Eoghain O’Callaghan charged Ekhosuehi with aggravated burglary, two counts of assault causing harm, and two counts of making threats to kill or cause serious injury. During the bail hearing, the detective objected to bail due to the severity of the alleged offenses.
Despite the objections, Judge Philip O’Leary granted bail under strict conditions, including regular check-ins at Mayfield Garda Station, surrendering his passport, providing a contact number, and having no contact with the victims or witnesses. The case is scheduled to return to court on May 27 to allow time for the preparation and service of the book of evidence.
This case highlights the serious nature of home invasions and the importance of thorough investigations in bringing alleged perpetrators to justice. The legal proceedings will continue as the court examines the evidence and testimonies related to the incident.
