Cross-Border Strikes Deepen India-Pakistan Conflict

In April 2025, a devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Indian-administered Kashmir, claimed the lives of 26 Hindu tourists and injured 17 others. The assailants, reportedly affiliated with The Resistance Front—a group linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba—targeted civilians in the Baisaran meadow, a popular tourist destination. Eyewitness accounts suggest that the attackers identified victims based on religious affiliation before opening fire.

In response, on May 7, India launched “Operation Sindoor,” conducting precision strikes on nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, including areas in Bahawalpur and Muzaffarabad. These sites were identified as hubs for terrorist groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Hizbul Mujahideen. The operation aimed to dismantle infrastructure used for planning attacks against India.

The Indian government stated that the strikes were a measured response to prevent further terrorist activities and emphasized efforts to avoid civilian casualties. However, Pakistan condemned the strikes as an “act of war,” reporting civilian deaths and damage to non-military structures.

Following the operation, Pakistan claimed to have downed several Indian aircraft and vowed retaliation. Both nations have since engaged in cross-border shelling, leading to additional casualties and heightened tensions.

The international community has expressed concern over the escalating conflict, urging both countries to exercise restraint. The situation remains volatile, with the potential for further escalation if diplomatic solutions are not pursued.
