Heartbreaking Loss: Dublin Cyclist Dies During Cycling Trip in France

Niall Kieran, a 29-year-old Dublin cyclist, tragically passed away while on a cycling trip in France with his father, Gerry.

Niall and Gerry were cycling in a mountainous area when the accident occurred. It is understood that Niall’s bike left the road on Sunday, leading to the tragic incident.

The news has left a deep void in the hearts of many, especially his cycling club, Orwell Wheelers CC. In a heartfelt tribute, they shared, “It is with deep sorrow that we have to share the news of the tragic passing of our clubmate Niall Kieran in a cycling accident last weekend.”

They continued, “Niall and his father Gerry were cycling in France. Those who knew Niall would be aware that he was eagerly looking forward to this trip with his dad. Niall loved every aspect of cycling—weekend spins, racing, and the social side. He was well-known and loved throughout the club.”

“Niall will be sorely missed by all those in the club who knew him. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences especially go out to Gerry. The club extends its deepest sympathies to all the extended Kieran family at this sad time. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.”

Cycling Ireland

Cycling Ireland also expressed their sympathies to the Kieran family. CEO James Quilligan stated, “On behalf of Cycling Ireland and the wider cycling community, we would like to express our condolences to Niall’s family and friends.”

A spokeswoman for the Department of Foreign Affairs told Dublin Live, “The Department of Foreign Affairs is aware of the case and is providing consular assistance. As with all consular cases, the Department does not comment on the details of individual cases.”
