Background of the Victims

Ross Monaghan, aged 43, had a history of involvement in organized crime. He was previously acquitted in 2012 of the murder of Kevin “Gerbil” Carroll, a member of the rival Daniel crime family. Monaghan had survived a prior assassination attempt in 2017 in Glasgow and had since relocated to Spain, where he operated Monaghans Bar.

Eddie Lyons Jr., aged 44, was also linked to the Lyons crime family. He had survived a shooting in 2006, believed to be part of the ongoing feud between the Lyons and Daniel families. Both men had longstanding associations with organized crime activities in Scotland.

Eyewitness Account

A nurse who was present at the scene recounted her experience:

“I was having a drink in a nearby bar with my partner when I heard gunshots. I rushed over and saw Ross Monaghan lying on the ground. I held his hand as he lay there.”

Potential Motives and Implications

The killings are suspected to be linked to the protracted feud between the Lyons and Daniel crime families, which has spanned over two decades and involved numerous violent incidents. The deaths of Monaghan and Lyons Jr. may signify an escalation in this conflict.

Authorities are concerned about potential retaliatory actions in Scotland, given the history of violence associated with this feud. The incident also underscores the international reach of organized crime networks and the challenges they pose to law enforcement agencies.
