Healy-Rae Seeks Court Order Over Defamatory Social Media Posts

Michael Healy-Rae, Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, initiated legal proceedings against Michelle Keane, a former general election candidate and activist, seeking an interlocutory injunction to remove allegedly defamatory social media posts.

Represented by barrister Elizabeth Murphy and solicitor Dan O’Connor, Mr. Healy-Rae’s legal team described the publications as “serious and grave,” aiming to restrain further dissemination of the allegations.

The Circuit Civil Court in Tralee, presided over by Judge Ronan Munro, was informed that Ms. Keane had been notified via email over the bank holiday weekend. Given the circumstances, Judge Munro directed that the notice be served personally at Ms. Keane’s residence in Knocknagoshel, even suggesting placement behind her electronic gates if necessary.

The matter has been adjourned to May 13, 2025. If Ms. Keane does not indicate her intention to contest the proceedings, the case may proceed on an uncontested basis.
