Ireland’s Thursday Forecast: Sunshine and High Temperatures
Hoping for a warm one today? Well, you're in luck. Thursday, July 16th, is shaping up to be an absolute cracker across most of Ireland. We're talking widespread sunshine, soaring temperatures, and generally lovely conditions for just about whatever you have planned. This is the kind of summer day we dream about, so make sure you make the most of it.

For those of us who have been patiently waiting for some consistent heat, it seems our patience is finally being rewarded. Today's forecast from Met Éireann paints a very clear picture: a largely dry day, bathed in sunshine, with temperatures that will feel genuinely summery.
What to Expect Today
The headline for today, Thursday, July 16th, is definitely "very warm and largely sunny." If you're anywhere in Ireland, you can expect plenty of bright spells. This isn't one of those days where the sun plays hide-and-seek; it's out in full force for the majority of the day.
Now, I'm not going to sugarcoat it entirely; there's always a slight chance of a rogue shower. Met Éireann mentions one or two developing in the south and west. So, if you're in Cork, Kerry, or parts of Galway, maybe keep an eye on the sky, but honestly, it sounds like a very minor threat. Most of us will be completely dry.
The real story today is the heat. We're looking at highest temperatures ranging from a very pleasant 24 degrees Celsius all the way up to a scorching 29 or even 30 degrees. Where will it be warmest, you ask? The midlands and the west are set to bask in the highest temperatures. So, if you're in places like Athlone, Tullamore, or even further west towards Mayo and Roscommon, prepare for some serious heat. The breezes will be light, coming from the northeast or variable, which means they won't do much to cool things down. It's going to be a proper warm one, folks.
Tonight's Outlook
Once the sun eventually dips below the horizon, we're still looking at pretty good conditions. Tonight will be dry, with clear spells dominating. There's a possibility of some patches of mist and fog forming, especially in rural areas, so be mindful if you're driving late or early tomorrow morning.
Temperatures won't drop too dramatically either. We're expecting lowest temperatures to be between 12 and 16 degrees Celsius. That's a comfortable night for sleeping, especially after a hot day, and light to moderate northerly winds will keep things relatively fresh.
Looking Ahead: The Weekend and Beyond
This isn't a one-day wonder, which is even better news for those of us who love the good weather. The high pressure system is sticking around, meaning this spell of settled weather is set to continue.
Friday, July 17th: Tomorrow looks set to be another dry day. Light to moderate northerly breezes will be present. The sunniest spots will be over Munster and Leinster, where temperatures could hit 25 to 28 degrees. It will be slightly cloudier and a bit cooler in Connacht and Ulster, with highs ranging from 17 to 24 degrees. Still, a good day for everyone, just a touch milder in the north and west.
Friday Night: Clear spells and a light to moderate northerly breeze. Lowest temperatures will be between 11 and 14 degrees.
Saturday: Dry again, with moderate northerly breezes. Munster and Leinster will once again get the best of the sunshine, with temperatures between 21 and 25 degrees. Connacht and Ulster will see a bit more cloud, with highs of 16 to 21 degrees.
Saturday Night: Dry, clear spells, and a few patches of mist and fog are possible. Lowest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees.
Sunday: More dry weather and sunny spells, with northerly breezes. Leinster and Munster are expected to be the warmest and sunniest, hitting 21 to 25 degrees. Connacht and Ulster will have more cloud, with highs of 16 to 21 degrees.
Next Week (Monday to Thursday): The outlook for early to mid-next week is for continued largely dry conditions. North to northwest breezes will prevail. Connacht and Ulster might see more cloud at times, with temperatures around 16 to 21 degrees. Munster and Leinster, however, are expected to remain warmer with more sunshine, seeing highest temperatures of 20 to 25 degrees.
It really does look like we're in for an extended period of pleasant, summery weather, which is something I think we can all appreciate. It's the perfect opportunity to get out and enjoy the beautiful Irish landscape, whether you're heading to the beach, exploring a national park, or just enjoying a cuppa in the garden. For more detailed local forecasts, it's always a good idea to check the official Met Éireann website (www.met.ie).
This kind of consistent warm weather isn't always a given in Ireland, so when it arrives, we should absolutely embrace it. It's a chance to really soak up the summer atmosphere, enjoy outdoor activities, and just generally feel a bit brighter. So, slather on the sunscreen, grab your sunglasses, and enjoy this fantastic stretch of Ireland Thursday weather. Make sure you stay hydrated, especially if you're out and about during the warmest parts of the day.
