Ireland Weather Forecast: Friday 24 April & Weekend Ahead \

It’s Friday, April 24th, and if you’ve been looking out your window wondering what the day holds, or perhaps planning your weekend escape, you’re in the right place. We’ve got the full rundown of today’s Ireland weather forecast and a glimpse into what the weekend and even next week might bring. Spoiler alert: it’s looking pretty settled for the most part, with high pressure playing a significant role.
For many of us, the first thing we check in the morning is the weather. It dictates everything from what we wear to what activities we plan. Today, much of Ireland can expect a dry start with a good deal of sunshine. I know I’m looking forward to that, and I hope you are too. It’s that kind of crisp, bright morning that just lifts the spirits.
However, things will shift a little as the day progresses. If you’re in Munster, you’ll notice the clouds gathering through the afternoon. By evening, some showers are expected to develop there, and a few could even be on the heavy side. So, if you’re down south, keep an eye on the sky and perhaps have an umbrella nearby, just in case.
Temperature-wise, today is shaping up to be quite pleasant. We’re looking at highest temperatures generally ranging from 14 to 20 degrees Celsius. The west of the country is set to be the warmest, which is often a nice surprise. Winds will be mostly light to moderate southeasterly. That kind of gentle breeze is always welcome when the sun is out.
What to Expect Tonight
As Friday evening turns into night, those showers that started in Munster will begin to move northwards. They’ll extend over Connacht and parts of the midlands. Again, there’s a chance some of these could be heavy.
For those of us in Leinster and Ulster, tonight is expected to remain largely dry. This means it will also be the coldest part of the country, with temperatures dropping to between 1 and 4 degrees. This is definitely a night for an extra blanket or two if you’re in those regions. Contrastingly, the west and southwest will be milder, with lows of 5 to 9 degrees. It’s always interesting how much variation we can see across the island on any given night.
Looking Ahead to the Weekend: Saturday
Saturday morning will see a few showers pushing up over Leinster and Ulster. But don’t let that dampen your plans too much; they’re expected to die out by noon. After that, the day looks mainly dry. We’ll have a fair amount of cloud, but also some welcome sunny spells.
Temperatures on Saturday will vary a bit. The western half of the country will see highs of 13 to 16 degrees, while further east, it’s going to be warmer, reaching between 17 and 21 degrees. Light variable breezes will keep things comfortable. It sounds like a decent day for getting out and about, especially in the afternoon once those early showers clear.
The National Outlook: A Settled Week Ahead
The overall picture for Ireland, according to Met Éireann, is that the weather will continue to be mainly dry and settled. High pressure is dominating, which is always good news for those of us who prefer less rain and more sunshine.
Saturday Night: Expect a mainly dry night with a mix of cloud and clear spells. There might be a few isolated showers in Ulster, but nothing too widespread. Lowest temperatures will be between 5 and 9 degrees, with light, variable breezes.
Sunday: Sunday looks set to be mainly dry, with a fair amount of cloud and some sunny spells. A few showers could develop in Leinster and Ulster during the afternoon and evening. Highest temperatures will range from 14 to 18 degrees, with light variable breezes. The east will once again be the warmest. Sunday night will be dry with some clear spells, and lows of 5 to 9 degrees.
Monday: Starting the new week, Monday will be dry with bright or sunny spells. Highest temperatures are forecast to be between 14 and 18 degrees, with light to moderate northerly breezes. It will be coolest in the north and warmest in the south.
Tuesday: Another dry day with sunny spells is on the cards for Tuesday. Temperatures will be between 12 and 18 degrees, accompanied by moderate northeasterly winds. The east will be the coolest, with the west and southwest enjoying the warmest conditions.
Wednesday: The dry spell continues into Wednesday with more sunny spells and moderate easterly winds. Highest temperatures will be similar to Tuesday, ranging from 12 to 18 degrees, with the east remaining cooler and the west warmer.
Thursday and Friday: The end of next week promises more of the same, which for many of us is a welcome prospect. Both Thursday and Friday will continue dry with sunny spells. Temperatures are expected to be in the mid to high teens, with light winds.
So, it seems we’re in for a period of generally settled weather. While there will be some regional variations and the odd shower, the overall trend is towards drier conditions and pleasant temperatures. This is ideal weather for exploring some of Ireland's beautiful walking trails or just enjoying a coffee outside. For the most up-to-date and specific forecasts, it's always a good idea to check the official Met Éireann website. They provide detailed regional breakdowns that can be very helpful for planning.
Enjoy your Friday, and here’s hoping for a lovely, mostly dry weekend for everyone across the island.
