Ireland’s Weather Forecast Monday, October 5th
Ireland Weather Forecast: Monday, October 5th – A Mixed Bag
Good morning, Ireland! As we get into Monday, October 5th, it looks like Mother Nature is giving us a bit of everything across the island today. If you're heading out, you might want to keep that umbrella handy, but don't rule out a glimpse of sunshine either. It's shaping up to be a classic autumn day, with some regional differences that are pretty typical for us.

Let's look at what's in store for today, and then we'll glance further into the week to help you plan.
Today's Snapshot: Cloudy Start, Patchy Rain, and Varied Temperatures
Monday begins with generally cloudy skies across Ireland. If you're in the west or north, expect some patchy light rain and drizzle. These won't be heavy downpours, but enough to warrant a light jacket or umbrella. Along with the drizzle, there will be patches of mist and fog, especially in those western and northern areas. So, if you're driving, take a bit of extra care on the roads this morning.
For those in the south and east, things are looking a little brighter. While it starts cloudy there too, drier conditions should develop as the morning turns into afternoon. We might even see some brighter spells, a welcome change from the grey.
Temperature-wise, it's a bit varied. The mercury will range from 14 to 20 degrees Celsius. It will be coolest in the northwest, where the cloud and drizzle will stick around. The real warmth, or what passes for it this time of year, will be in the south and east, where temperatures could reach a mild 20 degrees. Southwesterly winds will mostly be light to moderate, but they could pick up a bit and feel fresh at times in the northwest.
So, if you're planning your day, think layers. And if you're in the south or east, you might even get away with leaving the heavy coat at home for a while.
What to Expect Tonight: Mostly Dry South and East, Rain Elsewhere
As Monday transitions into Monday night, the regional weather split continues. If you're in the south and east, it's looking mostly dry. You can expect a mix of cloud and some occasional clear spells, which might even offer a chance to see some stars, depending on how much cloud cover remains.
However, for the rest of the country, it's a different story. Expect a cloudy night with continued outbreaks of rain and drizzle. Those familiar patches of mist and fog will also return. Lowest temperatures tonight will range from 8 to 13 degrees Celsius, generally cooler in the north and milder in the south. Winds will be light and variable, so no strong gusts to worry about.
Looking Ahead to Tomorrow: A Cooler, Clearing Day
Tuesday, October 6th, starts much like today, with widespread cloud and outbreaks of rain and drizzle. But there's a silver lining. Clearer skies with sunny spells and a few scattered showers will develop in the west and north through the morning and afternoon. This brighter weather will slowly spread southeastwards through the day.
However, if you're in the south and east, that cloud and patchy rain or drizzle might linger for much of the day. So, while the west gets a break, the southeast might have to wait a bit longer for the sun.
Tomorrow will feel noticeably cooler for most of us, with highest temperatures generally only reaching 11 to 14 degrees Celsius. The exception again is further south, where it will be a little milder, with temperatures still reaching 14 to 18 degrees. Light to moderate northerly breezes will be present across the country, adding to that cooler feel.
The Week Ahead: A Mix of Autumnal Conditions
The national outlook for the rest of the week suggests a typical autumnal mix. We're in for spells of rain, but also periods of dry and bright weather. It's going to feel quite cool at times, so it's definitely time to dig out those warmer jumpers.
Tuesday Night
Any lingering rain in the southeast will clear, leaving a mostly dry night for many with clear spells. However, a few showers will feed into the west and north. It will be colder than previous nights, with lowest temperatures of 3 to 7 degrees Celsius, accompanied by a light west to northwest breeze.
Wednesday
We're looking at a cool and bright autumn day. Expect plenty of sunshine, with just a few showers, mainly affecting the west and north. Highest temperatures will be between 11 and 14 degrees Celsius, with a moderate to fresh northwesterly breeze. Sounds like a good day for a brisk walk, if you ask me.
Wednesday Night
Mostly dry with long clear spells. Isolated showers will still affect the west and north. Lowest temperatures will be 5 to 10 degrees Celsius, with a light to moderate northwesterly breeze.
Thursday
After a dry morning for most, with some lovely sunny spells, cloud will begin to spread across the country from the west. Outbreaks of rain and drizzle will follow, with the heaviest and most persistent of these expected in the west and north. Highest temperatures will be 12 to 15 degrees Celsius. Winds will start light northwesterly, backing southwesterly through the day and picking up a bit.
Friday
We're starting off wet and breezy on Friday. The rain will clear southeastwards through the morning and afternoon, making way for sunny spells and scattered showers. Highest temperatures will be 13 to 17 degrees Celsius. Moderate to fresh southwesterly winds will veer westerly as the rain clears, and ease through the day.
Weekend Outlook
Current indications suggest a brighter day on Saturday, with a few showers mostly confined to the west and north. Sunday, however, looks set to be a wetter day. So, if you're making weekend plans, keep an eye on the updated forecast as we get closer.
