Ireland Weather Forecast Saturday 22 August
As we wake up this Saturday, August 22nd, it looks like Mother Nature is being pretty kind to us across Ireland. If you're looking out your window, you're probably seeing some decent spells of sunshine. And honestly, after the unpredictable summer we've had, I think we'll all take it.

Met Éireann, the national forecaster, tells us we're in for a mostly dry day. That's good news if you had plans to get out and about, whether it's a stroll in the park or perhaps a visit to one of our fantastic local markets. There's always a chance of a very light shower, especially if you're in the north or west, but nothing that should really dampen your spirits or your picnic plans. Don't expect a washout, that's for sure.
Temperature-wise, it's going to be a pleasant day, if not exactly scorching. We're looking at highs of 16 to 21 degrees. As you might expect, it will be a touch cooler up north, while those of us further south can expect the mildest of the temperatures. A light northerly breeze will keep things feeling fresh, which is often ideal for enjoying the outdoors without feeling too stuffy.
What to Expect Tonight
Once the sun starts to dip, the dry weather is set to continue. We'll have clear spells, perfect for a bit of stargazing if you're away from the city lights. However, the northwest might see a bit more cloud, and yes, that slight chance of a light shower could linger there.
One thing to watch out for tonight is the development of mist and fog. If you're out early tomorrow morning, or driving late tonight, be mindful of reduced visibility. It's also going to be a chilly night, so don't be caught out if you're planning an evening outdoors. Temperatures will drop significantly, with lows of 5 to 9 degrees. Some isolated spots could even see temperatures dip a little lower than that. With near calm conditions or just a light variable breeze, it'll feel quite crisp. So, maybe put on an extra layer if you're stepping out.
Looking Ahead to Sunday, August 23rd
Sunday morning should see any lingering mist and fog clear up fairly quickly. This means another largely dry day is on the cards, complete with more spells of sunshine. Just like today, there's a small chance of an isolated shower, this time mainly in Ulster. So if you're up that way, just keep an eye on the sky, but it shouldn't be anything too disruptive.
Temperatures on Sunday are set to be a bit warmer than Saturday, ranging from 17 to 22 degrees. A light variable breeze will continue, making for another generally pleasant day. It's shaping up to be a decent weekend overall, perfect for making the most of what's left of August.
The Week Ahead: A Mixed Bag
Now, for those of us already planning for next week, the outlook suggests a bit of a shift. Monday looks like it will continue the trend of plenty of dry weather and bright spells. It's a good day to get those last bits of summer enjoyment in before things potentially change. However, later in the day, we might see scattered light showers spreading up from the south. Temperatures will remain warm, between 18 and 22 degrees, with light to moderate east to southeast winds.
Monday night will become cloudier, with patches of rain and drizzle making their way across the country from the south. This means a milder night than the weekend, with lowest temperatures ranging from 11 to 16 degrees.
Tuesday is where things start to get a bit more unsettled, I'm afraid. We're looking at a generally cloudy day with outbreaks of rain and drizzle. The real kicker is that a spell of heavier rain is expected to push into the south and southwest towards evening. So, if you're in those areas, be prepared for some significant downpours. Highs on Tuesday will still be around 18 to 22 degrees.
Wednesday continues this rather damp trend. Expect cloud for most of the day, with outbreaks of rain that could turn heavy and possibly even thundery in places. Thunderstorms are always a bit dramatic, aren't they? Temperatures will be similar to Tuesday, 18 to 23 degrees.
And it doesn't look like things will settle down much towards the end of the working week either. The forecast suggests remaining unsettled, with further spells of rain, some of which could be heavy. So, while this weekend is looking pretty good, it might be wise to dust off those raincoats and umbrellas for the coming week.
It's always interesting to see how quickly the weather can change here. One minute we're enjoying glorious sunshine, the next we're bracing for heavy rain. That's just Ireland for you, isn't it? For the most up-to-date information, I always recommend checking the official Met Éireann website (www.met.ie). They're the experts, after all.
Enjoy your Saturday, whatever you have planned. Make the most of that sunshine while it's here!
