Ireland Weather Forecast: Saturday 30 May

As the final weekend of May arrives, Ireland's weather is, predictably, keeping us guessing. If you're hoping for constant sunshine this Saturday morning, prepare for a mixed bag. But that's Ireland, isn't it? We've all learned to plan around, or often despite, what the skies decide to do.

We've all seen forecasts that promise one thing and deliver another, but Met Éireann usually gives us a pretty good idea. For today, Saturday, May 30, they're predicting a dry start in the east. So, if you're in Dublin or Wexford, enjoy that calm while it lasts. The rain currently covering the western half of the country looks set to reach everyone by lunchtime.

A Day of Two Halves (and a Few Showers)

Once that initial rain band moves through, don't put away your sunglasses just yet. The afternoon and evening should bring a mix of sunshine and scattered showers. And by scattered, I mean some could be quite heavy. So, if you're heading out for a walk or planning outdoor activities, a light rain jacket might be helpful. Or, if you're like me, you'll just risk it and probably regret it later.

Temperatures today look quite pleasant, ranging from 16 to 20 degrees Celsius. That's a decent spring day, especially once the sun appears. We'll also have light to moderate southerly breezes, which should keep things feeling fresh without being too windy.

What to Expect Tonight

Tonight, as the day ends, expect a mix of clear spells and more showers. These showers will mostly be in the northern half of the country. As the night goes on, they should become more isolated. So, if you're in Donegal or Antrim (yes, our northern neighbors check in too), keep an eye on the sky.

Lowest temperatures tonight will be between 10 and 13 degrees Celsius, with mostly light southwesterly breezes. It won't be a particularly cold night, but definitely one where a good blanket would be welcome if you're sitting outside.

Looking Ahead to Sunday and the Bank Holiday Weekend

For those planning Sunday, tomorrow, May 31, promises bright or sunny spells and scattered showers. Sounds familiar, right? But a change is coming in the evening. Rain will start in the southwest and is expected to spread over Munster and Connacht by nightfall. So, if you're in Cork or Galway, get your outdoor plans done earlier in the day.

Temperatures for Sunday will be similar to today, ranging from 15 to 20 degrees Celsius, with light to moderate west to southwest breezes.

Met Éireann's national outlook suggests mixed weather for the foreseeable future. We're looking at generally cooler conditions than recently, with temperatures mostly in the mid to high teens. Sunday night will be mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle spreading across the country, with overnight lows between 11 and 14 degrees. Watch out for patches of mist too.

Bank Holiday Monday (yes, we're already thinking about it) will start with mostly cloudy skies and more outbreaks of rain. There's a chance of heavy rain in Munster and Leinster, followed by showers through the afternoon and evening. Highest temperatures will be between 15 and 20 degrees, with the east likely seeing the warmest conditions.

Looking further ahead, Tuesday will bring sunshine and showers, some potentially heavy, with temperatures from 14 to 18 degrees. Rain will spread from the west on Tuesday night. Wednesday begins with rain clearing to sunshine and showers, again with some heavy ones, and temperatures between 14 and 18 degrees, accompanied by fresh, gusty southwesterly winds.

Thursday is set to be cool and breezy, with sunshine and more heavy showers, and temperatures from 13 to 17 degrees. And the general consensus for Friday and next weekend? Unsettled weather, with rain or showers making regular appearances.

So, what does this all mean for your weekend plans? It means be prepared. This isn't the kind of forecast where you can leave the house without a backup plan. A waterproof jacket, perhaps a change of shoes, and an optimistic attitude will serve you well.

Ireland's weather often reminds us that variety is the spice of life, even if that variety sometimes involves all four seasons in one day. While we might not be basking in uninterrupted sunshine, there will still be plenty of bright spells to enjoy. Just make sure you're ready for the showers in between! For the most up-to-date information, it's always worth checking the official Met Éireann website.
