Ireland Weather Forecast – Saturday 31 May 2025

Saturday 31 May 2025 begins with a band of rain sweeping across Ireland from west to east, bringing a wet and gusty start to the weekend. While brief clearing spells offer sunshine and temporary calm, they won’t last. Another wave of showery rain targets the west by nightfall. This double-hit day is shaped by unstable fronts and gusty southwesterly winds, especially vicious in western counties. For much of the country, it’s a day to plan between the rain—if you’re lucky enough to dodge both.

Today’s Overview

A band of rain will dominate the early hours, beginning in the west and quickly shifting eastward. It will be heavy at times and accompanied by a fresh to strong southwest wind, especially along Atlantic coasts where gusts could cause brief disruption. The rain band should clear into the Irish Sea by early afternoon, opening the door to brighter skies. But that won’t be the end of it. Sunshine will be limited as a second front builds out west.

Scattered showers will break out behind the main rain band, some of them locally heavy. By evening, a fresh batch of showery rain is expected to sweep into Connacht and Ulster, possibly reaching Munster before midnight. The east and southeast may see more dry time overall, but everyone should be prepared for at least one soak.

Humidity levels will remain high throughout the day. Ground conditions will soften again, frustrating farmers and festival organisers alike. No weather warnings are currently in place, but conditions may border on hazardous for hillwalkers and coastal users.

Tonight’s Forecast in Ireland

By nightfall, another band of rain arrives into the west and northwest, bringing scattered showers elsewhere. Winds will remain gusty at times, particularly along coasts, before easing slightly overnight. Cloud cover thickens again as lows dip to between 10°C and 13°C. Some mist and patchy fog may form during breaks in the rain.

The unsettled pattern is expected to continue into the start of June, with more frontal systems lining up in the Atlantic.

What You Should Know

This is not a day for planning full outdoor events unless shelter is nearby. With two separate rain systems affecting different parts of the country at different times, timing will be everything. Roads may become slick during heavy showers, and short-term visibility could drop quickly during bursts of rainfall. Winds will challenge cyclists and coastal drivers early and late in the day.

While there are no storm alerts in place, the gusts—especially during the morning—should be treated with respect, particularly near western shores and high ground.

Looking Ahead

Sunday appears cooler, with scattered showers and fresh breezes from the west. Early June remains unsettled with a mix of sunny spells and intermittent rain. No strong signal of dry heat building anytime soon.
