Ireland Weather Forecast Today
Saturday Kicks Off with a Mix of Cloud and Warmth Across Ireland
It's another Saturday morning in July, and like many, I'm checking the sky first thing. What's the weather doing today, July 4th, across our island? This summer has been a real mixed bag so far, hasn't it? One minute you're grabbing the sun cream, the next you're digging out the rain jacket. That's the classic Irish summer experience.

Today's Ireland weather forecast looks pretty typical. It's often cloudy, but thankfully, much of the country should stay largely dry. That's always a win, especially on a Saturday when plans might involve getting out. If you're hoping for proper sun, your best bet is the south or east. That's where we expect the brightest and sunniest breaks today.
For those further west and north, particularly in Connacht and Ulster, there's some patchy light rain, drizzle, and mist. Nothing heavy, just enough to be a nuisance if you're planning an outdoor activity there. A few light spots might even drift elsewhere, so don't be surprised by a rogue drop or two.
Temperature-wise, it's a tale of two halves. The north and west will see highs of 15 to 18 degrees, which is pleasant enough, but certainly not scorching. Down in the south and east, however, things are looking warmer, with temperatures climbing to a respectable 19 to 23 degrees. Winds will be mostly moderate from the west to southwest, picking up a bit along the western and northwestern coasts. So, if you're by the sea in those areas, expect it to feel a little brisker.
What to Expect as Saturday Turns to Night
As Saturday evening arrives, the general theme is more cloud. The limited clear spells we saw in the south and east will likely be the only real breaks. The patchy light rain, drizzle, and mist will continue to hang around, mainly affecting parts of the north and west. We're also looking at some hill fog, which isn't ideal for late-night scenic drives, so do take care if you're out.
Overnight, the lowest temperatures will hover between 12 and 15 degrees, with light to moderate west to southwest breezes. It feels like a fairly mild night is in store, making it comfortable enough for a quiet evening in or a stroll if the cloud cover doesn't bother you.
Looking Ahead: Sunday and the Start of Next Week
Let's peek into tomorrow, Sunday July 5th. Again, much of the country will start off generally cloudy. But, just like today, the south and southeast are the lucky ones, with bright or sunny spells expected to develop there. The stubborn patchy light rain, drizzle, and mist will persist in parts of the north and west. Everywhere else, though, should be mostly dry.
The temperature difference between regions really becomes apparent on Sunday. The west and northwest will struggle to get past 16 degrees, while the south and southeast could see a glorious 24 or even 25 degrees. That's a significant swing, and it means those planning beach days or outdoor gatherings will need to choose their location wisely. Light to moderate west to southwest winds will continue.
Beyond the weekend, the general outlook for early next week suggests a good deal of dry weather. We'll still have occasional rain and drizzle, but it will primarily affect the west and north. The good news is that the south and east should continue to enjoy the best of the sunny spells, and it looks like sunshine amounts will generally improve across the country as the week progresses. This is something I always look forward to, as it means more opportunities to get out and enjoy what Ireland has to offer.
Sunday night will be another cloudy affair for most. Patchy light rain, drizzle, and mist will continue in parts of Ulster and Connacht, with mainly dry conditions elsewhere and some limited clear spells. Lowest temperatures will again be in the 12 to 15 degrees range, with light to moderate west to southwest winds.
Monday starts mostly cloudy, with those familiar patches of light rain and drizzle in the west and north. However, by the afternoon, these should become confined to coastal areas. The really exciting news for Monday is that current indications suggest warm sunny spells will develop in parts of Munster and Leinster, gradually spreading elsewhere later in the day. Temperatures are looking up, generally between 18 and 24 degrees, though it'll be a degree or two cooler right on the western and northwestern coasts. Mostly moderate west to southwest winds will prevail.
Monday night will be mostly cloudy with a few spots of light rain, drizzle, and patchy mist in the west and north. Elsewhere, it will be mainly dry with variable cloud and clear spells. Lowest temperatures will drop a bit to 10 to 14 degrees, with light to moderate west to southwest breezes.
Tuesday is looking brighter overall, with more widespread sunshine developing compared to the previous days. There might be some patchy drizzle in the northwest and north early on, but it should clear. Highest temperatures will be a lovely 20 to 25 degrees generally, with the warmest spots in the south and east. Atlantic coastal fringes will be a bit cooler, with highs of 16 to 19 degrees, all under a mainly light, occasionally moderate, westerly breeze. This sounds like a proper summer's day for many.
Wednesday continues the trend with a mix of cloud and warm sunny spells. There's just a slight chance of a few spots of drizzle near western and northwestern coasts. Temperatures will again be a very pleasant 20 to 25 degrees generally, though slightly cooler along the Atlantic coastal fringes, with a mainly light westerly breeze.
Looking further ahead, there's always a bit of uncertainty, as is the nature of forecasting, but there's a chance of more changeable conditions later in the week. For now, though, it seems like we're settling into a decent spell of summer weather, particularly for the south and east.
It's always a good idea to keep an eye on the official forecasts, especially if you're making plans that depend on the weather. You can always check the latest updates directly from Met Éireann (https://www.met.ie/) for the most accurate and up-to-date information. For a broader perspective on European weather trends, you might also find resources like Weather Online (https://www.weatheronline.co.uk/) useful.
So, for today, Saturday 4 July, my advice is to embrace the dry spells where you find them, enjoy the warmth if you're in the south or east, and perhaps keep that light jacket handy if you're in the west or north. Here's to a good weekend, whatever the sky decides to do!
