Ireland’s Weather Forecast: Sunday 24 May Brings Sunshine and Warmth

As the sun rises on Sunday, May 24th, 2026, Ireland is waking up to a rather pleasant day, especially after some of the changeable conditions we've seen recently. If you're planning on getting out and about, or just wondering whether to hang the laundry out, the Ireland weather forecast for today looks pretty promising for most of us.

We're talking about a day that's largely dry, with plenty of sunshine making an appearance. While there might be a bit of cloud and some patchy drizzle lingering in the north and west this morning, Met Éireann tells us that this should clear up beautifully as the day progresses, bringing those much-anticipated sunny spells to those regions too.

Today's Sunny Outlook

For those of us in the rest of the country, particularly the east and midlands, you're looking at dry conditions right from the get-go, accompanied by generous amounts of sunshine. We've certainly earned a bit of good weather, haven't we?

Temperatures are set to be genuinely lovely, ranging from 18 to 24 degrees generally. Now, that's what I call decent weather for late May. Of course, it won't be quite as warm right along the immediate southern and northwestern coasts, where a light to moderate south to southwest breeze will keep things a touch cooler. But honestly, 18 degrees with sunshine is hardly something to complain about. There's also a mention of sea fog affecting the south coast for a time, so if you're down that way, keep an eye out for that.

It's the kind of day that encourages you to step outside, whether it's for a walk in a local park or just enjoying a cuppa in the garden. For many, this warm spell will be a welcome change, a chance to shake off the last vestiges of cooler spring days.

Looking Ahead to Tonight and Tomorrow

As Sunday evening rolls in, the good news largely continues. Tonight is expected to be dry and clear across most of the island. However, the northwest might see a bit more cloud cover. One thing to watch out for as the night progresses will be patches of mist and fog forming, particularly inland, and that sea fog we mentioned earlier could still be an issue along some coastal areas. Temperatures will dip, as you'd expect, settling between 7 and 13 degrees, with light and variable winds meaning no strong breezes to disturb your sleep.

Then comes Monday, May 25th, and it looks like we're in for another cracker. Those mist and fog patches from overnight should lift and clear fairly quickly in the morning. Again, the northwest might experience some cloud and sea fog at times, but for the vast majority of Ireland, it's going to be dry with long spells of sunshine.

And here's the real kicker for Monday: it's going to be warm, even very warm. Temperatures are forecast to hit a fantastic 22 to 27 degrees. Munster and Leinster are expected to see the highest of these temperatures, which will be a real treat. A light southerly or variable breeze will keep things comfortable, making it perfect weather for outdoor activities or simply soaking up the rays. This kind of Ireland weather forecast really puts a spring in your step.

The Week Ahead: A Mixed Bag, But Mostly Good

Looking further into the national outlook, the start of the week promises plenty of sunshine and warm to very warm conditions. It seems like May really wants to deliver on its potential for good weather before it bows out.

Monday night will see some cloud and patches of drizzle making an appearance in the north and west, but elsewhere it will be dry with long clear spells. Overnight mist and fog will form again, with lowest temperatures between 10 and 15 degrees.

Tuesday kicks off with mist and fog clearing. While the northern half of the country might see some cloud at times, there will be plenty of warm or very warm sunshine. Temperatures are expected to be between 20 and 27 degrees, with Munster likely to be the warmest. North-facing coasts will be cooler. Winds will be light and northerly or easterly. Tuesday night will be dry and clear, with mist and fog developing in the south, and lows from 7 degrees in the north to 15 degrees in the southwest.

Wednesday might see a few showers in the southwest, but the rest of Ireland can expect another dry and warm day filled with sunshine. Highs will be between 20 and 26 degrees, with Munster again leading the way, and a light to moderate easterly breeze. Wednesday night will be very mild, with temperatures not falling below 12 to 16 degrees, though southern areas could see some showers.

Thursday brings the possibility of some showers, but these will be mixed in with warm sunny spells. Temperatures will range from 18 to 24 degrees, with a light to moderate south to southeast breeze.

As we head towards the end of the week and into the Bank Holiday weekend, current indications suggest temperatures will become less warm, and showers and rain could become a possibility. So, make the most of this early week sunshine and warmth!

It's always a good idea to keep an eye on the official Met Éireann forecast (you can find it at met.ie) for the very latest updates, especially if you have specific outdoor plans. The Ireland weather forecast can be a fickle thing, but for now, it's looking pretty grand. Enjoy the sunshine, folks!
