Cloudy skies and rain over the Irish countryside for today's weather forecast.

Ireland Weather Forecast Today

Sunday, June 7th: A Damp Start to the Day Across Ireland

If you were hoping for a glorious start to your Sunday, June 7th, you might need to adjust those expectations. We're looking at a pretty unsettled day across Ireland, with widespread cloud and a fair bit of rain making its way across the country. It's certainly not the bright, sunny summer morning we all dream of, but then again, this is Ireland, isn't it? We take what we get.

Cloudy skies and rain over the Irish countryside for today's weather forecast.

The latest Ireland weather forecast from Met Éireann paints a rather consistent picture for today. Expect cloud cover to dominate from the get-go. This isn't just a fleeting cloudiness either; we're talking about persistent outbreaks of rain set to spread across the country throughout the morning and into the afternoon. Some of these downpours will likely be heavy, so if you've got outdoor plans, make sure you're prepared with a good rain jacket.

The good news, if you're in the west, is that things might start to clear up a little later in the evening. Drier and brighter conditions are expected to develop there as the day draws to a close. However, for those of us further east, the wet weather is holding on tight. Eastern parts of the country will remain rather damp, with some heavy downpours continuing well into the evening.

Temperatures today will be on the cooler side for early June. We're looking at highs ranging from 13 to 17 degrees Celsius. Not exactly balmy, but certainly not freezing either. Moderate to fresh southwest winds will be a feature for much of the day, though these are expected to ease in the west later on. So, hold onto your hats, especially if you're near the coast.

What to Expect Tonight and Looking Ahead

Once Sunday rolls into Sunday night, the weather doesn't exactly snap into a perfect summer's evening. The west and north of the country will see a mix of clear spells and showers. Some of these showers could be heavy, so don't put away that umbrella too soon. Further east, cloudier conditions will persist for a while, with outbreaks of rain and drizzle lingering early in the night before eventually clearing out over the Irish Sea. Lowest temperatures tonight are forecast to be between 5 and 9 degrees Celsius, with light to moderate southwest to west winds. Keep an eye out for some mist patches forming too, especially in sheltered areas.

Looking ahead to Monday, June 8th, we're in for a bright start to the week for many, with sunshine and showers. The showers will be scattered, but they could be heavy at times, particularly in the north. As the day progresses, more prolonged showers are expected to spread in from the west. Temperatures will be similar to Sunday, ranging from 12 to 16 degrees, with moderate west to southwest winds, fresh along west coasts.

A Week of Unsettled Weather

I'd love to tell you that this unsettled weather is just a blip, but it seems we're settling into what Met Éireann describes as a "mobile Atlantic regime" for the foreseeable future. This basically means we can expect a continuation of unsettled weather, with rain or showers pretty much every day. Temperatures will also be cooler than average for this time of year. Don't despair entirely though; there's a glimmer of hope for improvement later in the week.

Tuesday looks like another day of showers and sunny spells. Some of these showers could be heavy, and there's even a chance of thunder. Highest temperatures will be between 13 and 16 degrees, with the southeast potentially being the mildest spot. Winds will be moderate west to northwest, fresher on exposed coasts.

Wednesday will start off bright for most, with isolated showers. However, Ulster looks set for showers or longer spells of rain in the morning. Cloud will increase across the board by the afternoon, bringing patchy rain and drizzle, though this should ease off later in the day. Temperatures will remain in that 13 to 16-degree range, with moderate westerly winds, fresh at times on west and southwest coasts.

By Thursday, we're looking at a wet start again, with rain clearing east through the morning. It could be heavy and persistent at times. Scattered showers will follow in the afternoon, again, possibly heavy, but with the occasional sunny spell breaking through. The good news here is that temperatures are expected to climb a bit, reaching 15 to 19 degrees. Moderate to fresh and occasionally gusty south to southwest winds will be a feature, becoming moderate west to southwest later.

And finally, for Friday, the forecast is currently pointing towards warmer and drier conditions with sunny spells. So, if you're planning for the end of the week, that might be your best bet for some proper summer weather.

It's a typical Irish summer forecast, isn't it? A bit of everything, never quite settled, always keeping us on our toes. While it might not be ideal for beach days or outdoor barbecues, it's certainly good for the greenery, and it means we get to appreciate those brief sunny spells all the more. Keep an eye on the official Met Éireann website for the most up-to-date and detailed forecasts, especially if you have outdoor plans. No matter the weather, there's always something happening in Ireland, and itson.ie will keep you in the loop.
