Ireland’s Weather Forecast Tuesday 5 May

Tuesday's Temperamental Skies: What to Expect Across Ireland
Well, another Tuesday is upon us, and if you’re anything like us, the first thing you do each morning is glance out the window to see what the day holds. Here in Ireland, that often means a bit of everything, and today, May 5th, 2026, looks to be no exception. We’re talking about a day that starts off a little grey, with some movement in the showers, and then perhaps a hint of sunshine to lift the spirits.
Let’s get into the nitty-gritty of what Met Éireann is predicting for us today, and what we can anticipate for the rest of the week. Because, let's be honest, knowing the weather is half the battle when planning anything in this country, from a simple walk to a full-blown outdoor event.
The Day Ahead: Cloud, Showers, and Peeking Sun
This morning, as many of you have probably noticed, started out mostly cloudy. Those sunny spells we all crave are going to be a bit limited, particularly early on. If you’re living in the north or west, you’ve likely already seen some scattered showers. These aren't going to stick around in one spot, though; Met Éireann tells us they'll be making their way southwards as the day progresses.
By this evening, those showers should become more concentrated in southern areas. This is good news for the rest of us, as it means we might actually see some proper sunny spells developing elsewhere. So, don’t despair if your morning commute was a bit damp; there’s a chance for brighter skies later.
Temperature-wise, it’s not exactly scorching. We’re looking at highest temperatures of 11 to 15 degrees Celsius. This is pretty typical for early May in Ireland, so don’t put away those light jackets just yet. Winds will be light and northerly, which usually means a slightly cooler feel, especially if you’re out in the open. We always recommend checking the official Met Éireann forecast for the most up-to-date local information.
A Chilly Tuesday Night
Tonight is going to be largely dry, which is always a welcome relief. We can expect some clear spells, which might even offer a nice view of the stars if you’re away from city lights. However, there will still be isolated showers, mainly in the south and northeast.
The real takeaway for tonight, though, is the chill. It’s going to be a cold one. Lowest temperatures are predicted to be between 1 and 6 degrees Celsius. The northern half of the country will feel the coldest of it. So, if you’re planning any late-night activities, make sure you’ve got a warm jumper handy. The light northerly or variable breeze won't do much to warm things up.
Looking Towards Wednesday: A Brief Reprieve?
As we cast our eyes to Wednesday, May 6th, it looks like we’ll get a good deal of dry weather. That’s a positive, isn't it? There will be a few sunny spells breaking through, which will be a pleasant change from today’s more limited offerings.
However, don't pack away the umbrella completely. Scattered showers are still on the cards, primarily over the south, east, and northeast. So, if you’re in those regions, it’s best to be prepared for a brief downpour. Temperatures will remain consistent with Tuesday, hitting highs of 11 to 15 degrees Celsius. Winds will shift to light southerly or variable, which might make it feel a touch milder.
The Week Ahead: Mixed and Changeable
The national outlook from Met Éireann suggests that from Thursday onwards, the weather is set to become more mixed and changeable. This is hardly a surprise for Ireland, but it’s good to have a heads-up. We could see outbreaks of rain and more frequent showers. It’s also going to remain quite cool for this time of year.
Wednesday night will be mostly dry, with scattered showers and a few clear spells. Expect another chilly night, with temperatures between 1 and 6 degrees in a light southerly or variable breeze.
Thursday starts off dry with sunny spells, which sounds promising. But, as the day progresses, it will turn cloudier in the west and northwest, bringing patchy light rain and drizzle. Showers will develop elsewhere too. Temperatures will be between 12 and 15 degrees in light to moderate southwesterly winds.
Thursday night sees cloud and light rain spreading southeastwards, with clear spells following from the northwest. Temperatures will be a bit milder than previous nights, ranging from 4 to 8 degrees.
Friday looks quite cloudy to start, with some patches of rain and drizzle. However, sunny spells and scattered showers are expected to develop in the afternoon, with the potential for some heavy downpours. Highs of 11 to 15 degrees with light to moderate westerly winds veering northwesterly.
Saturday, it seems, is still a bit uncertain in the details, but current indications point to a cloudy day with outbreaks of rain. It will be cooler, with highest temperatures of just 10 to 13 degrees in moderate north to northeast winds.
Beyond that, Sunday and early next week look set to continue this mixed pattern, with further rain and showers possible. So, while we might get some nice breaks, it seems we’re in for a fairly typical Irish May, where you need to be ready for anything! Keep an eye on the forecast, layer up, and enjoy whatever the skies decide to throw our way.
