Ireland’s Tuesday Weather: Patchy Rain, Eastern Warmth

It's Tuesday, June 16th, and if you're looking out your window in Ireland, you're probably seeing a familiar sight: clouds. Met Éireann has given us the forecast, and it looks like a pretty standard mixed bag for the day. What else would we expect from a June day in Ireland, right? Constant glorious sunshine would just feel… wrong.

Cloudy skies over an Irish landscape on a Tuesday morning with hints of rain.

Today, we're mostly under a blanket of cloud. Don't put away your umbrellas just yet, because there's patchy rain and drizzle making the rounds. You might get a brief glimpse of the sun, but those bright spells will be few and far between. If you're near the coast or in the hills, expect some mist and fog to hang around, especially along the south coast as evening approaches.

Temperature-wise, it's a bit varied. The mercury is set to hit anywhere from 15 to 20 degrees Celsius. If you're out west, particularly in those Atlantic coastal areas, it'll be cooler. But if you're in the east, you're in for the warmest part of the day. Winds will be light to moderate, coming from the south to southwest. So, a gentle breeze, nothing too dramatic. That's Ireland Tuesday weather for you, keeping us on our toes.

What to Expect as Evening Falls

As evening approaches, that patchy rain and drizzle from the day will start to clear eastwards. After that, we'll get a mix of cloud and some clearer spells. Don't get too comfortable though, because isolated showers are still possible. And just to keep things interesting, more patches of rain and drizzle will start to spread in from the Atlantic as the night progresses. Mist and fog will also appear in various spots.

It's going to be a mild night, with temperatures not dropping much below 11 to 14 degrees. The winds will remain light to moderate, starting from the south before veering southwesterly. So, if you're planning an evening stroll, a light jacket might be a good idea, just in case.

Looking Ahead to Wednesday

Wednesday, June 17th, promises to be a brighter day overall, which is something to look forward to after today's cloud cover. Any lingering rain and drizzle from overnight should clear up pretty quickly in the morning. After that, we're looking at a mix of cloudy periods, some lovely bright or sunny spells (fingers crossed!), and a few scattered showers. These showers will mostly be confined to the western and northern counties.

Later in the day, cloud will start to thicken from the southwest. This means some evening rain and drizzle developing in southwest Munster. Winds, starting light to moderate from the southwest, will pick up a bit, becoming moderate to fresh and occasionally gusty in the west during the afternoon. Temperatures on Wednesday will mirror today's, ranging from 15 to 20 degrees. It sounds like a decent day to get out and about, especially if you're not in the west or southwest later on.

The National Outlook: A Glimpse into the Changeable Future

Now, Met Éireann has a bit of a warning for us when it comes to the national outlook: "More uncertainty than usual." That's classic Irish weather forecasting for you, always keeping us guessing. But generally, it's looking rather changeable, with things turning wet and unsettled at times.

Wednesday Night: Cloud and outbreaks of rain in the south and southwest will push northwards, covering most of the country. Some parts of Ulster might dodge the rain until morning, but don't count on it. The rain could be heavy in places overnight, particularly in Munster. Lowest temperatures will be between 10 and 13 degrees, with light to moderate south to southwest winds.

Thursday: Get ready for a wet start to Thursday. Widespread rain is expected, bringing with it a risk of spot flooding. The rain might become patchier and more intermittent during the afternoon, offering a brief reprieve, but more widespread and persistent rain is expected to return in the evening. Winds will be mostly moderate southerly, becoming lighter in the west and northwest later. Highest temperatures will again be 15 to 20 degrees. Thursday night looks to be mostly cloudy with more outbreaks of rain and drizzle. A mild and humid night, with temperatures from 12 to 15 degrees. Winds will be light to moderate southerly, increasing to moderate to occasionally fresh overnight.

Friday: There's still some uncertainty about the exact details for Friday, but current indications suggest cloudy conditions with more spells of rain and drizzle. This could be heavy, especially in the east and south. Brighter, drier, and more showery conditions are expected in the west and north, gradually extending eastwards as the day goes on. However, rain might stick around for much of the day in eastern coastal counties. Mostly moderate southerly winds will veer lighter southwest as the rain clears. Highest temperatures will be 15 to 20 degrees.

Saturday: It seems like further cloud, rain, and drizzle will be feeding up from the south, affecting much of Munster and Leinster. The best of the drier and brighter weather will be further west and north. Highest temperatures of 15 to 18 degrees, with light to moderate south to southwest winds becoming light southerly or variable later.

So, there you have it. The Ireland Tuesday weather forecast is a mixed bag, and it looks like the rest of the week will largely follow suit. It's a typical Irish summer, isn't it? One minute you're reaching for the sunglasses, the next you're wondering where you left your rain jacket. Always best to be prepared for everything when you're living on this island.
