Katie Taylor’s Croke Park Dream in Doubt: No Fight Scheduled for 2025
Katie Taylor’s long-anticipated dream of headlining a boxing match at Dublin’s legendary Croke Park in 2025 is looking increasingly unlikely. Stadium director Peter McKenna has cast serious doubt over the prospect, stating that no formal discussions have taken place with Taylor’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, since October 2024.

No Communication from Eddie Hearn
Peter McKenna, who oversees operations at Croke Park, has revealed that despite the ongoing public discussion about a potential Katie Taylor fight at the stadium, no concrete steps have been taken by her team.
“No. Being honest, Eddie hasn’t been in touch with us. The last time I talked to Matchroom was probably October of last year,” McKenna stated.
This lack of communication raises serious doubts about the feasibility of organizing such a major event within the year.
Logistical and Scheduling Nightmares
One of the primary obstacles to Taylor’s Croke Park fight is the sheer scale of planning required. Hosting an 80,000-person boxing event demands extensive preparation, a strong undercard, and approvals from city authorities.
“To fill Croke Park with 80,000, you need an undercard, you need a whole razzmatazz to go with it,” McKenna emphasized.
Additionally, Croke Park’s schedule is already packed with high-profile concerts, including Oasis and Robbie Williams, further limiting available dates for a boxing showdown.
Katie Taylor Still Determined
Despite these challenges, Taylor remains hopeful about fulfilling her dream of fighting at Croke Park.
“That would be the icing on the cake, to fight at Croke Park. I am still hanging onto that love that I will maybe someday fight there,” she told fans in a recent Q&A session.
Taylor’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has also expressed continued interest, hinting at a potential deal with streaming platforms like Netflix to offset event costs.
“I know we always talk about it, but I just think that fight now generates so much money that it might be easier to suffer some of the costs,” Hearn suggested.
“Megaphone Diplomacy” Hurting Negotiations
Peter McKenna has criticized Taylor’s team for using public and media speculation rather than engaging in direct negotiations.
“The approach seems to be megaphone diplomacy rather than just getting down to having a conversation about what’s actually possible,” McKenna pointed out.
Without direct engagement and strategic planning, the fight remains a distant hope rather than an imminent reality.
Will Taylor Ever Fight at Croke Park?
The dream of seeing Katie Taylor fight at Croke Park is not dead, but significant hurdles remain. With no formal negotiations, tight scheduling constraints, and financial obstacles, 2025 seems an unlikely year for this historic event.
If Taylor’s camp wants to make this happen, they will need to step up their efforts, engage in serious discussions with stadium officials, and secure a viable date before it’s too late.
