Kiernan Hughes Mason Convicted of Child Cruelty
Kiernan Hughes-Mason, a former professional footballer who once played in the English Football League (EFL), has been convicted of child cruelty and grievous bodily harm. The 32-year-old was found guilty of inflicting severe brain injuries on a two-year-old girl, leaving her in need of constant care.
The horrific incident took place in Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex, back in 2020. Hughes-Mason’s actions resulted in life-changing consequences for the young victim, whose condition now requires round-the-clock attention.
Hughes-Mason, who began his footballing journey in the youth academies of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, made two appearances for Millwall’s first team between 2009 and 2010. Following his brief stint in the professional leagues, he continued his career in non-League football, playing for a variety of clubs including Grimsby Town, Welling United, Kettering Town, Maidstone United, Leatherhead, Grays Athletic, and Barking.
The former footballer is set to be sentenced on 10th September at Basildon Crown Court, where the full extent of his punishment will be determined.
This tragic case has shocked both the footballing community and the wider public, serving as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of violence, especially when it involves vulnerable children.
