King Charles III Briefly Hospitalized Due to Cancer Treatment Side Effects
King Charles III, aged 76, experienced temporary side effects from his ongoing cancer treatment, leading to a brief hospitalization on Thursday. As a precautionary measure, his scheduled engagements for Thursday afternoon and Friday have been postponed.

Hospitalization and Health Update
On Thursday morning, King Charles underwent a planned cancer treatment session. Subsequently, he experienced temporary side effects that necessitated a short period of observation at The London Clinic, the same facility where he received treatment for an enlarged prostate in January 2024. After the brief hospital stay, the King returned to his residence at Clarence House. A Buckingham Palace spokesperson stated, “Following scheduled and ongoing medical treatment for cancer this morning, The King experienced temporary side effects that required a short period of observation in hospital.”
Impact on Royal Engagements
As a result of this health development, several of the King’s engagements have been postponed. He was scheduled to receive credentials from ambassadors of three different nations on Thursday afternoon and undertake four public engagements in Birmingham on Friday. Expressing his regret, the King extended his apologies to those affected by the cancellations and hopes to reschedule these commitments in due course.
Ongoing Health Journey
King Charles was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer in February 2024, following a procedure for benign prostate enlargement. Despite the diagnosis, he resumed public duties in April 2024 and has maintained a schedule of engagements, including international visits. His treatment has been ongoing, with the Palace noting in December 2024 that the condition was being managed positively.
Looking Ahead
Despite this recent health setback, the King remains committed to his royal duties. Palace sources indicate that his upcoming state visit to Italy next month is still expected to proceed as planned. The King continues to work from his study at Clarence House, attending to state papers and maintaining communication with officials.
The brief hospitalization of King Charles III underscores the challenges associated with ongoing cancer treatment. The King’s resilience and dedication to his duties remain evident as he navigates this health journey. The public and royal watchers alike will undoubtedly continue to offer their support and well-wishes during this time.
