Man Arrested After Human Remains Found on Missing Farmer’s Property
The disappearance and subsequent discovery of human remains belonging to 56-year-old farmer Michael Gaine have sent shockwaves through the tight-knit community of Kenmare, County Kerry. Gaine, a well-known sheep and cattle farmer, was last seen on March 20, 2025, purchasing phone credit at a local shop. His sudden disappearance prompted an extensive search and investigation by authorities.

Discovery of Human Remains
On May 17, 2025, partial human remains were discovered on Gaine’s farm in Carrig East. The remains were found during routine agricultural work when a slurry tank malfunctioned, leading to the gruesome discovery. The area was immediately declared a crime scene, and forensic experts, including the State Pathologist and forensic anthropologists, were called in to assist with the investigation.

Arrest and Ongoing Investigation
Following the discovery, a man in his 50s, known to Gaine, was arrested on suspicion of murder. He is currently being detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda station in Kerry. Authorities continue to conduct searches and technical examinations at the farm and surrounding areas.
