Man Arrested After Posting Threats to Harm Irish Children on TikTok

A man was arrested in Abbeyleix, County Laois, after posting a video on TikTok threatening to harm Irish children. The video, which quickly spread across social media platforms, caused widespread alarm and led to heightened security measures in local schools.

Arrest and Charges

The individual, identified as 50-year-old Beniamin Petre, was arrested by Gardaí and charged under the Harassment, Harmful Communications and Related Offences Act 2020. He was also charged under the Criminal Justice (Hate Offences) Act 2024 for demonstrating hatred towards the Irish people. Petre, who has no fixed abode, was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear again in court via video link on June 5.
