The perpetrator, Lenon De Souza Seara, a 35-year-old Brazilian national residing in Cork, pleaded guilty to the assault, which occurred on July 4, 2024. According to court proceedings, the victim booked a massage at the hotel spa where De Souza Seara was employed. At the conclusion of the session, he asked if she would like a “surprise.” Believing this to be a benign offer, perhaps involving additional oils, she consented. However, while she lay on the massage table, wearing only disposable underwear and with her face covered by a towel, De Souza Seara performed a non-consensual sexual act on her. The woman immediately reacted, jumping up and repeatedly saying, “No, no, no,” before leaving the spa in a state of shock.​

Victim’s Impact Statement: The Lingering Trauma

In a poignant victim impact statement read in court, the woman described her feelings of violation and vulnerability. She recounted the confusion and self-doubt that followed the incident, questioning whether she had missed warning signs or could have prevented the assault. “I feel bad for what he is going through and wonder how he is supporting himself after his loss of earnings,” she said, highlighting the complex emotions victims often experience. “It also makes me mad that I feel responsible for that. I did nothing wrong. I was violated. I spoke up. I have to live with the unanswered questions.”​

Legal Proceedings: Admission of Guilt and Sentencing

De Souza Seara admitted to the assault and expressed remorse for his actions. His defense counsel noted that he had cooperated fully with the investigation and had no prior criminal record. He has since lost his job and is no longer working in the spa industry. The court has remanded him in custody, with sentencing scheduled for May 21. The maximum sentence for sexual assault in Ireland is 10 years, and the judge indicated that a custodial sentence is being considered.​
