Commentary from Met Éireann
Let’s not sugarcoat it – if you’re based in Dublin, Louth, Wicklow or surrounding eastern zones, you might want to cancel plans, reschedule meetings, or at the very least keep your hood up. The day starts off messy, and while there’s promise of improvements by afternoon, the first half is likely to be a sodden nightmare. Spot flooding isn’t just a maybe – it’s flagged.
Out west, it’s a different tale. Dry conditions will hold steady throughout the morning before offering some fleeting moments of spring brilliance with hazy sunshine. But don’t let it fool you – there’s still a nip in the air, especially near northern coasts.
The north and parts of Ulster face a transition day. Rain will ease off but you’ll still need waterproof layers until the later hours.
The winds? Noticeable. Moderate to fresh northwesterlies will whip across coasts and inland towns before dropping slightly after sunset. Not gale force but just enough to remind you it’s still April in Ireland.
What to Watch For
- Spot flooding risk especially in urban eastern areas.
- Patchy mist and fog where rain clears later.
- Coastal fog affecting visibility.
- The next band of rain due late Thursday into Friday.
