Mild Air, Humid Skies And Scattered Breaks – Thursday 29 May 2025
Thursday 29 May will feel humid and mild across Ireland, but don’t expect much sunshine. A blanket of thick cloud will dominate for most of the day, with on-and-off spells of rain and drizzle. While much of the country will stay damp, Connacht and Ulster could see some brief, brighter breaks in the afternoon. Breezy southwest winds will keep temperatures up, with a humid feel throughout. Conditions will ease later tonight as skies clear somewhat and mist patches settle in. Don’t let the mild start fool you—the atmosphere remains unsettled, and another pulse of wet air isn’t far behind.

Thursday’s Overview
Ireland is in for a typical late May shuffle between spring warmth and early summer gloom. While much of the country will remain shrouded in grey cloud with rain or drizzle on and off, brief spells of brightness are possible—especially in Connacht and Ulster during the afternoon. These breaks won’t last long as thicker cloud pushes back in from the Atlantic.
Humidity will dominate today’s atmosphere. With highs ranging from 15°C in the north to 19°C in the south and east, it’ll feel stuffy and close, especially in urban areas. Light to fresh gusty southwest winds will stir the mix but won’t do much to clear the skies.
Farmers, outdoor workers, and travellers should be aware of the on-and-off dampness, especially on rural roads and hills where mist and fog can reduce visibility. Despite the mild air, the UV index remains low due to dense cloud cover.
Tonight’s Forecast
The night will see conditions gradually calm but remain mostly cloudy. Rain and drizzle will clear from most areas, particularly across the southeast. Clear intervals will follow, along with localised mist and hill fog. Lowest temperatures will range from 10°C to 13°C, with the north being coolest. Light to moderate winds will persist in the west but ease in many other regions.
Visibility may be reduced in some areas due to fog, especially near the Atlantic coast and inland low-lying spots.
What You Should Know
Don’t expect clean air and blue skies today. While rainfall will be less aggressive than in previous days, persistent dampness and saturated air will affect comfort levels. Humidity remains high, with little drying opportunity for fields, construction zones or laundry lines.
There are currently no weather warnings from Met Éireann, but the forecast remains unstable heading into the weekend. Friday will offer a brief dry window before more widespread rainfall returns by Saturday night.
Looking Ahead
Friday will bring a short-lived improvement, especially in eastern counties, with some sunny spells possible before rain returns in the west. A fresh Atlantic system is lining up to strike Saturday evening, bringing more significant rainfall and potentially gusty winds into Sunday.
Use today and early Friday to prepare for wetter conditions over the weekend.
