A former police officer has taken the internet by storm with a chilling theory: his late grandfather may have been the notorious Zodiac Killer. In a series of viral TikTok videos, Jeremy Foy, 35, presented his case, leaving millions shocked as he explained why he believes his grandfather, Richard Hoffman, could be behind the infamous murders that terrorized the Bay Area in the late 1960s.

Over a four-part TikTok series, which has now garnered over 11 million views, Foy laid out a range of reasons why he suspects his grandad might be the elusive Zodiac Killer. From eerie childhood stories to physical similarities and suspicious behaviour, Foy has pieced together a disturbing narrative. One of the most shocking details? A bizarre comment Hoffman made in a documentary about one of the victims’ bras ‘fluttering’ during CPR, a remark that sent red flags flying for Foy.

Suspicious Evidence

In his TikTok videos, Foy shares details that have caused true crime enthusiasts to sit up and pay attention. According to Foy, internet sleuths have suspected his grandfather’s involvement in the Zodiac killings for years, adding fuel to his own suspicions. He described how his grandad, who was also a police officer, was frequently linked to the case online—something that Foy couldn’t ignore.

The most unsettling example of Hoffman’s behaviour, Foy claims, was when his grandfather gave an interview for a documentary about the Zodiac murders. In the interview, Hoffman made a strange and specific remark about a victim’s bra ‘fluttering’ while she was receiving CPR, a comment that Foy found disturbingly out of place and inappropriate.

The Zodiac Killer’s Victims

Though the Zodiac Killer claimed responsibility for 37 murders in cryptic letters sent to newspapers, only seven victims have been confirmed by investigators—five murders and two survivors. These killings began in 1968 and left a lasting scar on the Bay Area.

On December 20, 1968, Betty Lou Jensen, 16, and David Arthur Faraday, 17, were found shot to death on a notorious lovers’ lane in Solano County, about 40 miles from San Francisco.

A second attack occurred just six months later, on July 4, 1969, when Michael Renault Mageau, 19, and Darlene Ferrin, 22, were brutally attacked while parked at Blue Rock Springs Park, another popular hangout spot for young couples. While Ferrin tragically died, Mageau survived and provided crucial details to law enforcement about the attack.

The killer struck again on September 27, 1969, this time stabbing college students Bryan Hartnell and Cecelia Shepard as they picnicked at Lake Berryessa. While Hartnell survived the vicious stabbing, Shepard did not.

The Zodiac’s final confirmed victim, Paul Lee Stine, was a taxi driver shot on October 11, 1969, near Union Square in San Francisco. Unlike previous killings, which took place in Solano County, this murder occurred in the city. Stine’s murder was definitively linked to the Zodiac after he sent the San Francisco Chronicle a letter containing a blood-stained piece of Stine’s shirt.

In addition to these murders, the Zodiac is speculated to be connected to other unsolved homicides, including the brutal stabbing of Cheri Jo Bates, an 18-year-old who was found dead on Riverside Community College’s campus on October 30, 1966.
