Tommy Robinson Charged with Harassment of Two Men

Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, widely known as Tommy Robinson, a prominent British far-right activist, has been charged with two counts of harassment causing fear of violence against two men. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) authorized the Metropolitan Police to proceed with the charges, which relate to incidents that allegedly occurred between August 5 and 7, 2024. Robinson is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on June 5, 2025.

Tommy Robinson Background of the Charges

The alleged offenses took place during a period of nationwide unrest in the UK, following the tragic murder of three young girls in Southport, northwest England. This event sparked widespread anti-immigration protests across various towns and cities. Robinson, who describes himself as a journalist exposing governmental wrongdoing, was accused by some of exacerbating tensions during these protests.

Recent Legal History

At the time the charges were brought, Robinson was serving an 18-month prison sentence for contempt of court, imposed in October 2024. This sentence resulted from repeated breaches of a 2021 High Court injunction that prohibited him from making false allegations against a Syrian refugee, Jamal Hijazi, who had previously won a libel case against him. Robinson was found to have shown an “absence of contrition or remorse” during sentencing.

During his incarceration at HMP Woodhill in Buckinghamshire, Robinson was placed in segregation for his safety due to credible threats from other inmates. He later appealed his sentence and the segregation order, citing negative impacts on his health, but both appeals were unsuccessful. However, in May 2025, the High Court reduced his sentence by four months after he assured the court of his intention to comply with the injunction, acknowledging a “change in attitude.”

Upcoming Court Appearance

Robinson’s court appearance on June 5 will address the new harassment charges. The CPS has emphasized that criminal proceedings are active and that Robinson has the right to a fair trial. No further details about the alleged victims or specific incidents have been disclosed at this time.

The charges against Tommy Robinson add to his history of legal issues and controversies. As the case proceeds, it will be closely watched by supporters and critics alike, reflecting ongoing debates about free speech, activism, and the boundaries of lawful conduct.
