On May 26, 2025, Liverpool’s jubilant Premier League title parade was marred by a tragic incident when a vehicle drove into a crowd of fans on Water Street, resulting in numerous injuries and widespread shock.

The Incident
At approximately 6:00 PM BST, as thousands of fans celebrated Liverpool FC’s league victory, a grey Ford Galaxy was driven into the assembled crowd. The vehicle struck multiple pedestrians, including children, before coming to a halt. Eyewitnesses reported scenes of chaos and terror as the car plowed through the crowd.
Emergency services responded swiftly, with Merseyside Police arresting a 53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area at the scene. Authorities have stated that the incident is not being treated as terrorism and believe the driver acted alone.

The North West Ambulance Service reported that 47 individuals were injured in the incident, with 27 requiring hospitalization. Among those hospitalized were four children, two of whom sustained serious injuries. An additional 20 people were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Emergency responders, including paramedics and firefighters, worked diligently to assist the injured. Four individuals were trapped under the vehicle and had to be extricated by fire crews. Nearby establishments, such as the Riva Blu Italian restaurant, were utilized as makeshift triage centers to provide immediate care to victims.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the scenes as “appalling” and commended the emergency services for their swift response. Liverpool FC issued a statement expressing their thoughts and prayers for those affected and affirmed their cooperation with authorities. The Premier League also extended its support, stating, “Everyone at the Premier League is shocked by the appalling events in Liverpool this evening, and our heartfelt thoughts go out to all those injured and affected.”
Local officials and community leaders have called for unity and support in the wake of the tragedy. Liverpool West Derby MP Ian Byrne expressed his heartbreak over the incident, urging the community to come together during this difficult time.
