What Happened?
Gardaí have confirmed that the collision involved two vehicles. One of the vehicles, driven by a woman in her 60s, had no passengers. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The second vehicle was being driven by a woman in her 40s. She was also fatally injured and died at the scene. Two young children—believed to be aged five and eight—were travelling in the same car. Both sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Cork University Hospital for emergency treatment.
Garda Investigation Underway
The N72 road near Navigation Road was closed for several hours to facilitate a forensic collision examination. Gardaí are now appealing for any witnesses who may have been travelling in the area around the time of the crash.
Anyone with dash-cam footage is asked to make it available to investigating officers. The incident is being handled with urgency, as investigators work to piece together the circumstances of the fatal collision.

In a separate incident on the same day, a three-car crash on the N25 at Moonameen, County Waterford, claimed the life of another woman in her 60s. Several other occupants of the vehicles involved were also injured, though their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
These tragic events occurred on Mother’s Day, a date typically marked by family gatherings and celebration—making the losses all the more heartbreaking for the families affected.

Gardaí are reminding all road users to exercise caution, particularly during busy holiday periods.
“This is an incredibly difficult time for the families involved, and our thoughts are with them,” said a Garda spokesperson. “We are appealing to anyone who may have seen either vehicle prior to the incident, or who may have camera footage, to come forward.”
