Cork Man Sent ‘I’m coming for you’ Threat Weeks After Prison Release
Rory Lally, a 20-year-old from Wainsfort, Rochestown, Cork, previously convicted for harassing and threatening a teenage girl, has allegedly violated his court-imposed conditions shortly after his release from prison. Within a month of his release on February 24, 2025, Lally is accused of sending multiple threatening messages to his victim, contravening the terms of his suspended sentence.

Detective Garda Pat Connery informed Cork Circuit Criminal Court that Lally sent four messages between March 29 and April 27, 2025. One message, sent on March 29 at 10:45 PM, stated: “I am out now and I’m coming for you.” Another, sent on April 27 after attending a hurling match and consuming alcohol, was directed to the victim’s father, demanding: “Get [victim’s name] and sort this out for once and for all.”
Cork Court Proceedings and Defense
In court, Lally attributed his actions to complications with his medication, stating he had ceased taking it due to adverse effects. He expressed remorse, saying, “I know I shouldn’t have done it. I will never ever, ever, ever, ever, do it again. I just want to get and do my Leaving Cert.” He also pledged to abstain from alcohol.
Judge Helen Boyle remanded Lally in custody until May 20, 2025, when Judge Sinead Behan, who imposed the original sentence, will consider activating the suspended portion of his sentence.
Background of the Case
Lally’s initial conviction stemmed from a series of harassing behaviors toward a teenage girl he met online in April 2023. After meeting in person at a concert in June 2023, the victim felt uncomfortable and ceased contact. Despite being blocked on social media, Lally continued to contact her, creating new accounts and using different phone numbers. His actions escalated to threats of violence, leading to his arrest and a two-year sentence in December 2023, with one year suspended on the condition of no contact with the victim.
Impact on the Victim
The victim reported significant emotional distress due to Lally’s persistent harassment, requiring counseling to cope with the trauma. Judge Behan acknowledged the severe impact on the victim during sentencing, emphasizing the seriousness of Lally’s actions.
Legal Implications
Lally’s alleged breach of his suspended sentence conditions highlights the challenges in enforcing court orders and protecting victims from continued harassment. The upcoming court decision on May 20 will determine whether the suspended portion of his sentence will be activated, potentially resulting in additional imprisonment.
