Ireland Weather Forecast: Saturday 11 July

Saturday Set for Sunshine, Heatwave Continues

If you've been hoping for a real Irish summer, it seems your wish has come true. Today, Saturday, July 11, looks like another fantastic day, with plenty of sun and truly wonderful temperatures. A significant heatwave is settling in, and it's here to stay for a while.

Met Éireann's latest forecast for Ireland predicts a largely dry and genuinely warm day, pushing into hot territory for most of the country. Expect clear skies in many areas, though those in the north and northwest might see more cloud cover at times. There's even a faint chance of an isolated light shower up there, but I wouldn't count on it.

Temperatures today look quite high, generally ranging from 24 to 29 degrees Celsius. The hottest spots will be in the midlands and the south, so if you're there, make the most of it. It will be a bit cooler in the north and northwest, which is typical with those north to northeasterly breezes, mostly moderate but occasionally stronger along the coasts.

Tonight's Mild Embrace

As Saturday transitions into night, the forecast promises continued dry conditions. Most places will have clear skies, perfect for stargazing if you're interested. Again, the north might retain a few more clouds, with that isolated light shower still a possibility.

But the main story tonight is the warmth. The lowest temperatures are only expected to drop to between 13 and 18 degrees Celsius. That's a genuinely mild night, ideal for leaving windows open and enjoying the summer air. Light, occasionally moderate, north to northeast or variable breezes will maintain comfort.

Sunday: Even Hotter, Westward Shift

Just when you thought it couldn't get better, Sunday arrives with an even stronger dose of summer. The forecast for tomorrow, Sunday, July 12, is for another dry and mostly sunny day. There might be a few cloud patches further north, but for the most part, clear skies are expected.

The heat is set to intensify and move westwards. We're talking generally 24 to 29 or even 30 degrees Celsius. The hottest conditions are now anticipated across the west, midwest, and southwest. So, if you're in Clare, Limerick, Kerry, or Galway, prepare for significant heat.

Meanwhile, the east will be a little cooler, with temperatures in the low twenties. This is due to the moderating effect of an onshore, mostly moderate, occasionally fresh, easterly wind. It acts like a natural air conditioning system, in my opinion.

The Week Ahead: A Prolonged Heatwave

Now, let's look at the bigger picture. The national outlook from Met Éireann confirms what many have been hoping for: this prolonged period of very warm or hot weather will continue for much of next week. And honestly, it's going to get even hotter.

From midweek onwards, temperatures could locally reach the low thirties. Yes, you read that right – low thirties. While those easterly winds will keep temperatures a bit lower along the east coast, the rest of the country is in for a significant stretch of heat.

Nights are also going to become very warm and humid. We might even experience some "tropical nights" in parts, which for Ireland, is quite rare and exciting. A tropical night is when the temperature doesn't fall below 20 degrees Celsius. That indicates a serious heatwave.

The general trend for the week is dry and sunny. However, as the week progresses, particularly later on, there's an increased chance of some showers or thunderstorms. This isn't unusual with such high temperatures; the heat and humidity can often trigger dramatic weather.

Sunday Night into Monday

Sunday night will be dry and mostly clear, with lowest temperatures staying between 14 and 19 degrees in mostly moderate easterly winds.

Monday looks like another dry and mostly sunny day. Temperatures will generally be between 23 and 28 degrees, with Munster and Connacht seeing the highest values. Eastern and northern parts will be a little cooler, around 20 to 22 degrees, thanks to that moderating east to northeast wind. Monday night will be dry and clear, with lows of 13 to 18 degrees.

Midweek Marvels and Potential Thunderstorms

Tuesday continues the trend: mostly dry and sunny. There's a slight chance of an isolated stray shower further south later in the day. Highs will generally be 24 to 28 degrees, with the midwest and southwest being the warmest. East and north coasts will again be a couple of degrees cooler.

Wednesday is when things really intensify. It's expected to be an even hotter and more humid day. Temperatures will be in the mid to high twenties generally, and some areas, particularly the midwest, west, and southwest, could hit the low thirties. Eastern coastal regions will see lower temperatures, mostly in the low to mid twenties. While it will stay dry and sunny for most, the heat and humidity might trigger a few sharp showers or isolated thunderstorms, most likely in the south and west.

Thursday sounds like a repeat performance: another widely very warm or hot day. Temperatures will again be in the mid to high twenties for many, possibly reaching the low thirties in places, with Munster potentially being the hottest. East coast temperatures will remain lower, in the low to mid twenties. The chance of sharp showers or thunderstorms developing, especially across the southwest and west, looks higher on Thursday.

Friday keeps the hot spell going, with temperatures again in the high twenties and touching the low thirties locally. It will be dry and sunny for many, but expect scattered showers or thunderstorms to be around.

Looking Further Ahead

There's always some uncertainty when looking into next weekend, but the current forecast suggests a greater likelihood of some rain or showers. However, it also indicates that there will still probably be a lot of dry and sunny weather. Temperatures might drop back to more typical values for this time of year, but there's also a chance that this impressive hot spell could continue a little longer.

So, get out there and enjoy the sunshine, stay hydrated, and remember that this kind of sustained heat is a rare treat for the Emerald Isle. For the most up-to-date information, always check the official Met Éireann forecast (https://www.met.ie/). It's shaping up to be quite the summer!
