Irish Man Found Safe After Disappearance in Spain
In late April 2025, Barry Kelly, a man from Roosky, County Roscommon, was reported missing in Spain, prompting an international search and widespread public concern. His last known location was Alicante Airport on Saturday, April 26. Family members, particularly his sister Colette, expressed deep worry due to his lack of communication, limited funds, and a depleted phone battery.

Colette took to social media to appeal for assistance, stating:
“My brother is missing, last seen in Alicante Airport. He has no charge in his phone and very little, if any, money. We are trying to get him home but cannot contact him. If anybody sees him, please let us know. He may be in a vulnerable place.”
Barry was described as wearing a denim jacket, white t-shirt, and green combat trousers at the time of his disappearance. The situation was further complicated by a significant power outage in Spain on Monday, April 28, which disrupted communications and heightened concerns for his safety.
The Department of Foreign Affairs in Ireland acknowledged the situation and indicated readiness to provide consular assistance. Meanwhile, local Spanish authorities were alerted, and efforts to locate Barry intensified.
After three days of uncertainty, relief came when Barry was found safe and well in Spain. The family expressed profound gratitude to the public for their support and assistance during the search. This incident underscores the importance of community involvement and international cooperation in addressing missing person cases abroad.
