Manchester City Clinch Third Place with Victory Over Fulham

Champions League Qualifications
Manchester City secured third place with a 2–0 victory over Fulham, featuring goals from İlkay Gündoğan and Erling Haaland. This win ensured their participation in the Champions League for the upcoming season.

Despite a 1–0 loss to Everton, Newcastle United secured fifth place, benefiting from Aston Villa’s 2–0 defeat to Manchester United. This result confirmed Newcastle’s return to the Champions League.
Aston Villa’s Controversy
Aston Villa’s loss to Manchester United was marred by controversy. A potential goal by Morgan Rogers was disallowed due to a perceived foul, a decision that could not be reviewed by VAR as the referee had already blown the whistle. Villa’s director of football operations, Damian Vidagany, expressed dissatisfaction with the officiating, questioning the assignment of an inexperienced referee to such a crucial match.
European Competition Overview
With Tottenham Hotspur winning the Europa League, the Premier League will have six teams in the Champions League next season: Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur. Aston Villa and Crystal Palace will participate in the Europa League, while Nottingham Forest qualifies for the Europa Conference League.
Champions League 2025–26 Format
The 2025–26 UEFA Champions League will feature a new format, expanding to 36 teams in the league phase. The competition will commence on 8 July 2025 and conclude with the final in Budapest on 30 May 2026.
